The Problem

You Already
Know This

The global financial system — from legacy SWIFT networks to newer fintech platforms — still can’t reliably move money into the corridors where ministry is most needed.

Failure Point 01

Blocked

Transfers to restricted regions are delayed, rejected, or rerouted — if they go through at all.

Failure Point 02

Exposed

Onerous KYC requirements for sender and recipient can reveal affiliations and endanger workers in sensitive contexts.

Failure Point 03

Expensive

Combined fees of 5–15% or more in the most challenging payment corridors.

Every dollar that can’t reach the field — whether blocked, exposed, or lost to fees — is a dollar that never serves the mission it was given for.

Payment Method Comparison

Feature Traditional Wire Stablecoin (USDC) Bitcoin
Transfer Time 3-7 business days Minutes 10-60 minutes
Typical Fees 5-15% Under 1% Under 1%
Accessibility Bank account required Mobile phone Mobile phone

According to World Bank Remittance Prices Worldwide data, cross-border transfer fees for sub-Saharan Africa average 7.9% (Q4 2024), with some corridors exceeding 15%.

The Solution

A Different
Set of Rails

Digital currencies offer a fundamentally different approach — decentralized, global, and built for environments where traditional rails break down.

Accessible

Reaches restricted regions that banking can’t serve.

Private

No recipient KYC — auditable internally, invisible externally.

Fast

Minutes, not days. 24/7, no banking hours.

Affordable

1–2% fees. Local conversion can even yield a premium.

Brilliance Labs specializes in two proven technologies — Bitcoin and US dollar-denominated stablecoins — and shows you how to implement them responsibly within your specific context.

We Did the Research

Cross-border Missions
Funding Challenges

Before we built Frontier Finance, we went to the source. In partnership with the Bright Ideas Think Tank, we surveyed 25 finance executives managing over $60 million in annual cross-border missions transfers — to understand the real barriers, not the assumed ones. The findings shaped everything about how we work.

Honest Questions

You Asked.
We Answer.

What are digital currencies, and which ones do you use?
Digital currencies are decentralized payment systems that operate without banks or governments as intermediaries. Brilliance Labs works with two proven technologies: Bitcoin, the world’s most established digital currency, classified by the U.S. SEC as a digital commodity; and US dollar-denominated stablecoins, which maintain a steady value pegged to the dollar. Together, they offer flexibility — Bitcoin for corridors where privacy and independence from banking infrastructure matter most, and stablecoins for situations where price stability is the priority.
What about Bitcoin’s volatility?
Bitcoin’s short-term price swings are real, but in a transfer context, they’re manageable. By minimizing holding periods — sometimes as brief as a few seconds — early adopters in nonprofits report losses under 1%, compared to 3–10% in traditional FX spreads. In high-demand countries like India, Bitcoin often sells at a 3–7% premium, which can offset dips or even make transfers profitable. For organizations that prefer to avoid volatility entirely, dollar-denominated stablecoins provide a fixed-value alternative that still bypasses traditional banking rails. Notably, Bitcoin has never posted a negative return over any rolling four-year period since its inception in 2009.
Are digital currency transfers secure enough for missions money?
Security is one of the core strengths of these technologies. Every transaction is cryptographically signed and verified by the largest dedicated computing network ever built — and to tamper with it, an attacker would need to build an even larger one, sustain it long enough to alter the ledger, and somehow convince thousands of independent computers worldwide to accept the changes. The network has operated for over 15 years without a successful hack. Transactions are irreversible, which eliminates chargeback fraud but requires care — we always recommend starting with small test amounts. And because every transfer is recorded on a transparent ledger, blockchain analytics tools like Chainalysis enable OFAC screening and regulatory compliance with greater precision than many traditional methods.
How does my fieldworker actually get local currency?
This is often the first question experienced finance leaders ask — and it’s one of the most important things we help you solve. Depending on the region, options include peer-to-peer exchanges with trusted local buyers, local exchange platforms, or community-based conversion networks. Part of the pilot consultation is assessing what off-ramp options exist in your specific target regions and connecting you with the tools and networks to make conversion practical and safe.
