Bitcoin Lightning Gifts - Direct to Missionaries

Demo / Proof-of-Concept

Global Map with location pins

Brilliance Labs has developed an extensive network of global missionaries, indigenous Christian leaders, and partner organizations. Through our training events and educational resources we help these partners to utilize bitcoin in their Kingdom work. To demonstrate the effectiveness of bitcoin for cross-border payments we have created a custom Google Map that displays many of the workers and ministries who we have on-boarded to the bitcoin network. Each listing on this map includes a basic description of the ministry and a bitcoin lightning address/QR code that can be used to send them funds.

How To Use the Funding Map to Gift Bitcoin to a Missionary

  1. Open the Funding Map in a browser (Not the Google Maps App)

  2. Double click/tap on the map or pinch out to zoom in. Or alternatively use the (=/-) zoom buttons.

  3. Click/tap on a pin to display the ministry name/description. On mobile you may need to tap the name in the lower pop-up window to see the full description and lightning address.

  4. If you are viewing the map on the same device as your bitcoin wallet you will want to highlight and copy the lightning address shown for the ministry. If you can use two devices, then click/tap on the QR code so that it displays full screen.

  5. Then switch to your lightning wallet app. Go to the “send bitcoin” function of your lightning wallet. Either open up the wallet QR code scanner to scan the QR code or paste in the lightning address into the space for recipient.

  6. Choose the amount of bitcoin that you want to send. Many wallets let you choose the amount you want to send either denominated in USD or in Sats. Sats are fraction of a bitcoin with 100 million Sats being equal to one full bitcoin. Either way the wallet should tell you the USD value of your gift before you are asked to confirm that you want to send the bitcoin.

  7. Tap send.

Demo Limitations and Disclaimers

  • The demo features are limited if viewing the map on mobile. The Google Maps app does not allow for copy and pasting the lightning address and you need two device to use the QR code feature (one device to display the QR code and a mobile device to scan the code within the lightning app.) If trying to view the map on mobile, you will need to open the map on your mobile browser and not in the Google Maps App.

  • Each ministry listed is engaged in the ministry activities described (as far as we can verify through trusted sources ) and they agree with the Lausanne Covenant. Listing a ministry does not mean that we endorse everything that they do or say.

  • To protect the privacy of workers in sensitive regions we have chosen to not include individual names and sometimes we have chosen to not include an organization’s name.

  • These listings are not an appeal for funding. This is a demonstration and proof-of-concept to be used for educational purposes only.

  • Any funds sent to lightning wallets on this map are gifts and NOT tax-deductible donations. Brilliance Labs receives nothing from any of these payments either from the ministries listed or from the funds sent.

  • We have offered basic bitcoin education to the ministries listed and have tested to confirm that their wallets were active when they were added to the map.

  • Nothing on this site is investment or tax advice. Talk to a professional before purchasing or gifting bitcoin.
